Corbit A. Ray, Veteran, US Marine Corps – the Chosin Few

Born 8 August 1930 in Hemingway, South Carolina

Enlisted in USMC 8 August 1947

Trained at Parris Island for 18 weeks

Attended Advanced Training in Camp Pendleton, CA

Dispatched for duty in Guam and the Mariana Islands (Western North Pacific), 9th Marine Regiment

Assigned to duty in China in 1949, then transferred to the Mediterranean via USS Roanoke CL145

Trained and tested Cold Weather Heavy Equipment in Labrador (US Army Supplied, USMC tested)

Assigned to Camp Lejeune, NC for duty training Reservists in the pre-Korea build-up

Sent to Korea as part of landing force Dog Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. Their actions are described in great details in the book: Triumph On 1240, the story of Dog Company 7th Marines in Korea

Medals awarded: Silver Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct, Korean Service

Received medical retirement 31 August 1951
